STONE

The vast number of hues, textures, and shades of stone that can be used to create a rockery, retaining wall or water feature possess dizzying potential. Our most-used stone choices are hand-selected basalt, sandstone, limestone, and granite. Our experts will help you select the colors, size, shape, and texture that will provide your rockery’s unique aesthetic. This process generally occurs during the property environmental analysis, creating a harmony between the construction materials and the place in which they will be assembled.

PLANTS

Retaining Walls

Sometimes during your property evaluation, our landscaping experts may determine that you will need a retaining wall installed to protect the integrity of your installation’s structure. Part of our service program is to discuss if it is necessary to install a retaining wall for practical reasons and what materials will be best suited for the overall design scheme you have already decided on during consultation. Once you approve this plan change for the rockery design, our people will get to work installing it right away.

Retaining Wall Rock Selection

In landscaping, there are three types of rocks we use to build retaining walls and other outdoor structures: on half man rock, two to three man rock, and boulders.

One Man/Half Man Rock
The chief advantage to these rocks is that they require no machinery to install, and can easily be built by hand. Interestingly, the name of the rock is not derived from what the average man can carry — rather, it’s the average a man can shift on his own using a crowbar. Even when working with these smaller stones though, we always schedule enough crew to finish your rockery installation in a timely manner.

Two to Three Man Rock
Massive in size and extremely heavy, these stones require a three-man team and heavy machinery to install them safely and properly. One man operates the assembly machine, a second drives the truck, and the third direct events from the ground. Two to three man rock work is the core of much of our business, and so we have a specialized machine to save time and money when building larger structures. Our brick-laying machines have been engineered specifically to make the installations of this type of wall fast and inexpensive. Depending on weather and home conditions, our crew can complete 400-600 square feet per working day. This number is naturally a reflection of years of training and experience, but by and large, our people can finish most jobs within 24 hours depending on the scale of the job.

Boulders
With their rounded edges and smooth sides, boulders are a less popular choice for landscaping rockeries, though sometimes they are be interspersed within a rock wall for a unique look. As a rule, though, boulders are generally more decorative than functional.

Water Features

Few additions to a home garden or backyard space add quite as much serenity and enjoyment as a functioning water feature. Our team aspires to make your vision a reality, including fountains, falls, pools, and ponds.
