Here’s an overview of our methods for designing a rock retaining wall that will last in your yard. First, after we’ve finished a consultation with you over the phone. Neil Eneix will come out and take a look at your yard to get a better feel of your needs as well as the type of equipment and personnel that will be needed to get the job done quickly. It’s important to us that we get the job done quickly and with minimal damage to your yard.
We use special equipment with rubber tracks that will run over plywood to make sure that nothing is excessively damaged. Aside from your new beautiful rock retaining wall, the only evidence of our existence is usually some imprints on your grass as well as any other type of newly landscaped areas.

How Your Rock Retaining Wall Will Be Designed

The most important part of building a wall is the type of rock you use and the laying down of the foundation. For instance, using old rock might save you a few bucks but in the long run, you might be disappointed to find that the old rock was so inexpensive because it crumbles easily. Over time, bad rock can destroy an entire wall. The other important factor that you must look at is the size of rock you’re going to use for your foundation. If you build a foundation improperly it will undermine the rest of the wall.

Best Practices for Rock Wall Design

Having the Proper Slope –
a typical wall should slope back at about 6 inches every two feet. If there’s not enough slope on the wall you will threaten its strength.

Proper Fill –
Rock walls that are over four feet tall should have crushed rock behind it. Crushed rock should fill about 3/4 of the height of the wall. The rest of the height can be filled in with topsoil for planting and gardening. There are many different types of crushed material that can be used. One of the more popular types of fill used is recycled concrete. Not only is it a great way to recycle old concrete but it can usually save a few bucks on your bill.

Geogrid or Fiber –
If your wall is going to have a lot of water passing through it, we may need to install geogrid or fiber material for added strength. We will generally lay down the material once every couple of feet to make the retaining wall last longer.
