Our Seattle rockeries include a gravel drainage layer behind the stone face, a perforated drain pipe at the base, and careful stone placement that allows water to weep through the wall face without undermining the structure.
We source our stone from Pacific Northwest quarries — primarily basalt from Eastern Washington and granite from the Cascades — selecting pieces for both structural integrity and the natural, weathered appearance that Seattle homeowners expect. We don't use imported stone or manufactured products for rockeries; the character of a natural stone rockery comes entirely from the material itself, and we take stone selection seriously.
Seattle's SDCI requires permits for rockeries over 4 feet in height, and walls in steep slope or landslide hazard areas require additional review.
